Assistant/Store Manager (SMT)

The Store Manager In Training (SMIT) job is the first step in the Thrift Giant Retail Management Development Program, and is a short-term role (not to exceed 24 months) that provides both hands on day to day management responsibilities and training opportunities to prepare SMITs to be promoted into a Store Manager role in the Dallas area.

From the date of entry into the Thrift Giant Retail Management Development program as an SMIT, it may be possible to progress to a Store Manager position within 12 weeks-24 months, depending on the prior experience and performance of the SMIT.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assure to reach all sales and revenue goals including developing sales strategies and tactical implementation

  • Analyze business trends, track competitor landscape, share best practices with other stores

  • Own store issues proactively identify challenges and create improvement plans

  • Direct responsibility for all day-to-day store operations

  • Train and develop production staff to increase product knowledge and pricing accuracy

  • Conduct employee evaluations

  • Effectively execute point-of-sales transactions, nightly reconciliation, etc. Must have the ability to trouble shoot basic POS issues

  • Maintain internal visual merchandising and in-store displays and ensure store appearance

  • Maintain proper inventory controls, communicate inventory levels and forecast production needs that the store will maintain the correct amount of inventory on the floor in order to meet the sales goals

  • Responsible for creating a pleasant/hospitable work environment

  • Conduct weekly/monthly staff meetings

  • Responsible for correct pricing of merchandise

  • Responsible for “ragging” items

  • Responsible for protection of property and stress the importance of safety

Qualifications:

  • English and Spanish speaking required

  • Retail experience

  • Management experience

  • Ability to delegate job duties and responsibility to employees

  • Ability to train employees

  • Ability to motivate and lead a team

  • Excellent communication and people skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure or challenging situations

  • Must be able to work nights and weekends

  • Ability to be able to lift 40-50 lbs.
